The ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir today alleged the opposition Peoples Democratic Party has become a proxy of the BJP in the valley.

The PDP is politically bankrupt and "the desperation to come to power has made it become a proxy of the BJP in Kashmir", Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's political secretary Tanvir Sadiq said in a statement here.

"A former IB director, a woman social activist running an NGO and a senior journalist in Delhi are working as mediators between the PDP and the BJP," he said.

The PDP leadership which has been heaping praise on Modi for the past couple of weeks has promised the BJP that it will get into a secret understanding with it like in 2002, he said.

"Mehbooba Mufti's candidature for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat is a clear indication that the PDP is now so desperate that it has agreed to become a proxy of Modi if through dubious means they are helped in election," Sadiq said.

"The PDP has given the BJP to understand that she (Mehbooba) might win (the polls) but very soon she will be humiliatingly defeated by the people," the statement said.

Terming PDP a "failed opposition", Sadiq said its strategy is either walkouts from the assembly or making mis-statements which are not only in bad taste but also senseless and devoid of logic.
