Polling was proceeding peacefully in Chhattisgarh, even in areas for which the government had concerns, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said Monday.
"Situation in Chhattisgarh is fully under control, there are long lines since morning," Shinde told reporters here.
"Even in places where we had concerns, polling is taking place smoothly," he said.
Polling is underway amid high security for the first phase of assembly polls in Chhattisgarh in 18 Maoist-affected constituencies in Rajnandgaon and Bastar.
Maoists had given a call for people to boycott the polls.
