According to reports, Kumar would contest from the Aurangabad Parliament seat in Bihar in the Lok Sabha elections. He is the son of veteran Congress leader and former Bihar chief minister Satyendra Narayan Singh. Kumar had lost the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Aurangabad to Sushil Kumar Singh. In 2004, he was elected to Parliament from the same seat.
The President of India has accepted the resignation of Kumar, who also served as Delhi Police Commissioner and Governor of Nagaland from Oct, 2009. He was appointed as Governor of Kerala in Mar, 2013. Former three-term chief minister of Delhi, Dikshit was defeated by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the last Assembly elections. She will be the 22nd Governor of Kerala.
