Atlas Copco marks 50 years of India operations

Global industrial group Atlas Copco is celebrating 50 years of Indian operations. The journey in India has been marked by spectacular growth, and today India is Atlas Copco’s fifth largest market. In the last three years, new production facilities have been inaugurated in three major locations across India.

To provide professional support to the Indian industry, Atlas Copco has state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities for compressors in Pune and for construction and mining equipment in Nashik. Earlier this week the company inaugurated a new factory for drill bits in Hyderabad, which will serve the world market.

Atlas Copco has a national presence of over 1 700 highly skilled employees in 22 offices across India. Apart from bringing to the Indian market the latest and best in its area of expertise, Atlas Copco has been – and is - committed to sustainable productivity, meaning that the Group strives to create offerings with minimal environmental impact while increasing the customers’ productivity.

Celebrating the 50 year anniversary at the Swedish Embassy in New Delhi, Ronnie Leten, President and CEO of the Atlas Copco Group said, “The Indian market has shown remarkable development since the time when Atlas Copco opened its first office in the country, five decades ago. Our growing presence in the country shows our ambition to continue offering sustainable productivity also in the time to come. We strongly believe that our dedicated five decade long commitment to the Indian market has equipped us with the expertise to address national needs in accordance with demands for enhanced long term and immediate productivity. Our Indian operations contribute significantly to Atlas Copco’s global footprint in not just manufacturing but also in R&D, sourcing and marketing.”

Today, India is Atlas Copco’s fifth largest market. With the strong development in India, Atlas Copco continues to introduce new products at an increased speed in the main sectors it is serving.

Besides a successful business operation in India, Atlas Copco is also involved in a number of community engagement projects. In Pune the company provides food and education to the Disha orphanage. Atlas Copco India also participates in Water for All, a non-profit organization managed by Atlas Copco employees. Since its start in 1984, the organization has provided clean drinking water to approximately one million people in countries where the need is big.

Atlas Copco holds a press conference on September 10 with presentations by Ronnie Leten and Filip Vandenberghe, Vice President of Atlas Copco (India) Ltd . Björn Rosengren, President Construction and Mining Technique, and Mats Rahmström, Industrial Technique, will also be available for questions.
