MMTC's new Assaying & Hallmarking Centre inaugurated at Jaipur

MMTC’s Gold Jewellery Assaying & Hallmarking Centre at Jaipur was inaugurated recently by Shri Namo Narain Meena, Hon’ble Union State Minister of Finance Dr. Mahesh Joshi, MP and Smt. Jyoti Khandelwal, Mayor, Jaipur Nagar Nigam, Jaipur.

Shri Sanjiv Batra, CMD, MMTC welcomed the Chief Guest and Special Guests.  Shri Batra in his inaugural speech highlighted the importance of Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and protection of common from the frauds of admixture of Metal in Jewellery.

Shri Batra also highlighted about the highest ever turnover of MMTC during the current Financial year and import of Bullion to the extent of 28% of the entire Bullion import in the Country.  Shri Batra also highlighted that in India there is approx 20,000 MT Gold available in different forms which could be made part of Indian economy if its purity is ascertained as Banks are ready to extend 85% value as loan.

Dr. Mahesh Joshi, MP and Smt. Jyoti Khandelwal, Mayor also highlighted the importance of hallmarking for benefit of consumers and Jewellers.  Smt. Jyoti Khandelwal opined that opening of more Hallmarking Centres like the one opened by MMTC shall give awareness among the consumers who purchase Jewellery and accordingly the demand for hallmarked Jewellery shall increase. 

Shri N.K. Grover, Scientist & Head, BIS, Jaipur briefed the audience about the failure of samples collected by them from the market as one out of 40 samples fulfilled BIS criteria.  Shri Grover informed that the Govt. of India was planning to make hallmarking of Jewellery mandatory but in view of less number of hallmarking centers, it is still voluntary. 

Shri Rajiv Arora one of the leading Jewellery exporter and manufacturer requested MMTC to supply Gold and Silver for export on regular basis so that export can increase in the State.

The Chief Guest, Shri Namo Narain Meena, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Finance praised MMTC for efforts to establish three Assaying & Hallmarking Centres in other parts of India and latest being at Jaipur.  He has also thanked MMTC for fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities by way of establishing Gold Jewellery Hallmarking Centres so that the consumers who purchase Jewellery can be protected from the frauds.  Hon’ble Minister has also advised the CMD, MMTC for making available continuous supply of Gold / Silver for exporters of Rajasthan so that export from Rajasthan may increase manifold.  

Most of the Jewellers of Jaipur attended the inaugural ceremony of Assaying & Hallmarking Centre of MMTC and were very keen to get their Jewellery hallmarked in time to come from MMTC.
