In the last three years or so, a search committee has recommended names of 516 persons for filing up around 457 positions of non-official directors in 212 CPSEs, Corporate Affairs Minister Arun Jaitley said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
These persons included around 172 former government servants, 136 ex-chairman and managing directors/directors, 87 professors, academicians and 114 professionals, he added.
Explaining the procedure for selection, Jaitley said the proposals for appointment of non-official directors on the boards of CPSEs is initiated by the concerned ministries by recommending the names of at least three eligible persons for each position proposed to be filled.
The concerned department appoints the official on the basis of recommendation of the search committee after obtaining necessary approval from the competent authority.
