Mohani Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Ram said the incident occurred when Musafir Pandey, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district, was going to his relative's house in Kaimur district along with his wife Sharma Devi.
Sharma Devi died on the spot while his husband Musafir Pandey sustained serious injuries in the incident, the officer said adding Pandey has been referred to Varanasi for better treatment after administering first-aid.
Local residents blocked the NH 30 for two hours in protest against the incident, which was lifted after intervention from senior officials, Ram said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem to the sadar hospital at Bhabhua.
