1 dead in fire at incense stick manufacturing unit

A major fire broke out at an incense stick manufacturing unit in Sahibabad here today in which a welding technician was charred to death.
The fire broke out at the factory in site-4 industrial area of Sahibabad around 4 PM when Sarfraz (25), a technician, was carrying out welding work on the basement of the building, Officiating Superintendent of Police (City) Vipin Tada said.
Fire personnel suspect that welding sparks caused the fire, in which Sarfraz was charred to death.
Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot from Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, Dadri and Hindon Air Force station. It took about five hours for the fire fighters to douse the flames, the police officer said, adding that over 20 factory workers were rescued by fire brigade personnel.

Properties, raw material and finished goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the blaze, he said.
