Santosh Kumar (30) died in the incident in Billi Markundi area yesterday while three injured have been hospitalised, Circle Officer Pravin Kumar said.
Enraged over the incident, the labourers present at the spot pelted stones at the police and demanded compensation, he said.
However, the protesters were soon pacified and the body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem, Kumar said.
