Eighteen-year-old Rafiq Ahmad was killed and three others including a woman were injured in the clash last night, they said.
The incident took place when Ahmad, who was preparing for exams, scolded some children asking them not to disturb him, they said.
The children included grandsons of Ahmad's neighbour Nasiruddin Ansari, who had some old issues with his family, they said.
Angry at Ahmad, Ansari and his three sons, armed with pistol, axe and knives shot Ahmad and injured his two brothers, they said.
The injured were rushed to the hospital, where Ahmad was declared brought dead, while condition of his brothers was stated to be stable, they said.
The police is probing the matter.
