1 killed due to cold as mercury dips in parts of UP

One person was killed apparently due to cold in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh as night temperatures fell in some parts of the state with Nazibabad recording the lowest at 4.8 degrees Celsius.
An unidentified old man sleeping on the footpath in Shahjahanpur was found dead this morning. Most likely, he died of cold as his woollen clothes were inadequate, in charge of Rajghat police station Dilip Yadav said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and details will be known only after getting the report, he said.
Meanwhile, the MeT here said night temperature fell appreciably in Faizabad and Allahabad divisions, lowered in Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow and Jhansi divisions, and rose appreciably in Meerut division.
The MeT department has forecast dry weather in the state over the next two days.
