According to the prosecution, the convicts hacked and shot dead Anup Sen (26), a resident of Taraknagar Sukantapally in Krishnaganj block, following a land dispute on November 30, 1996, when he was sleeping.
Shyamapada, the victim's elder brother, had lodged an FIR naming 12 persons including Bimal Biswas, the ex-CPI(M) member of Taraknagar gram panchayat.
While the judge convicted 10 on Saturday, two were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
