Police picked them up acting on a tip-off that a group of people, mostly students from Bihar, have arrived in the state to write the entrance examination for some candidates appearing in the examination after taking money.
Assam Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the police to take necessary action in this regard following which one person was arrested from a hotel here last night and on the basis of information provided by him, nine others were rounded up from various examination centres.
Among the fake candidates, two were arrested from Dispur College and one each from Pragjyotish and Lalit Chandra Bharali in Guwahati while four others were arrested from J C College in Silchar and one Birjhara College in Bongaigaon.
Police claimed that the candidates for whom these persons were appearing had already been given an advance amount and on getting selected they would have been paid the remaining amount.
