10 killed in bus-lorry crash in Telangana

Ten persons, including five women and a baby boy, were killed and 16 others injured in a head-on collision between a state-run bus packed with passengers and a lorry near here today.
The ghastly road accident took place in Ramannapet mandal of the district.
"Nine passengers traveling in the bus and its driver were killed in the mishap. Sixteen other passengers suffered injuries, one of them critically, in the head-on collision between the bus and the lorry," Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Ganga Ram told PTI.
The dead include five women and a baby boy, he said.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals, the officer said and underlined the negligence on part of the lorry driver.
The right-side of the bus was completely damaged, he said.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of those killed in the accident.
The ex-gratia amount would be in addition to the compensation to be provided by the Road Transport Corporation, a release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.
Rao asked Nalgonda District Collector to ensure proper medical treatment to those injured in the tragedy.
He instructed the officials concerned to take steps to prevent accidents on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway, the release added.
