The boy, Richard Thomas, was suddenly stung by a bunch of bees when he was playing outside his apartment yesterday, Dr Suresh Tamnani, who attended him at a local hospital, said.
The attack was so severe that the boy collapsed on the road and was later rushed to a hospital by neighbours, where he was declared brought dead, he added.
Residents said that it was not clear what prompted the bees to attack the child.
Richard was a student of class V and his father works with the government health department while his mother is a nurse.
