11 killed in Pakistan bus accident

At least 11 people, including women and children, were killed and 12 others injured when a bus fell into a ravine just northeast of Pakistan's capital Islamabad today.
The bus, which was carrying 25 passengers from the hill town of Murree to Punjab's Rawalpindi district, fell down a hill after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to heavy rains and slippery roads.
Eleven people, including women and children, were killed and 12 others wounded in the accident. The condition of several injured was reported as critical, DawnNews reported.
Rescuers reached the accident site and shifted the victims to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital.

The popular hill resort Murree is situated around 50 km northeast of Islamabad and attracts tourists from across the country.
Bus accidents are common on the mountainous track to the hill town because of careless driving and speeding.
Pakistan has one of the world's worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
Yesterday, a collision between two passenger buses and a petrol tanker killed 35 people in Balochistan province, with many of the victims burning to death.
