The accident occurred in Dewandighi area, about two km from Burdwan town, a police official said.
The exact number of injured persons was yet to be ascertained, he said. The bus was carrying around 70 passengers.
People of Khudkuri village were proceeding to Mayapur in Nadia district in three buses and the vehicles were overtaking each other when the mishap took place, he said.
On hearing cries for help, locals rushed to the area and tried to rescue the trapped passengers by pulling the overturned bus with the help of tractors. The villagers and the police rushed the trapped people to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital where 11 passengers, were declared "brought dead".
