Parthibanur checkpost police intercepted the vehicle last night and found the contraband when they searched it.
One Kumar managed to give the slip to police but the car driver, K Thangapandian was arrested, police said.
On being questioned, Thangapandian revealed that he was engaged by one Jeyalakshmi to smuggle the contraband up to Paramakudi, police said.
The case was handed over to the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau today for further investigation, they added.
