13 detained for protesting in solidarity with JU students

Thirteen students were detained by police for a brief period in Salt Lake area today for protesting and writing posters in solidarity with the Jadavpur University students.
Students from various colleges today gathered near a Puja pandal in the area. They wrote posters and raised slogans, condemning the alleged crackdown by police on the University students on September 16.
"We had detained 13 students following apprehensions that they might create problem during the Durga puja ceremony. We later on released all of them on personal bond," officer in charge of Bidhannagar North Police Station Santanu Koar said.
Thousands of students took to the streets on September 20 demanding JU VC Abhijit Chakrabarti resignation after the alleged brutal police action on students inside varsity's campus.

Governor K N Tripathi, who is also the Chancellor of the University, intervened to end the stalemate in the prestigious institution, where students continue to boycott classes.
