The police have registered cases against 13 prisoners on various charges in connection with the violence that broke out inside jail premises two days back, leading to the death of an undertrial.
Cases have been registered on the Jail Superintendent's complaint and inmates have been charged with attempt to murder, arson, causing damage to jail property and hurting jail officials.
During the search of inmates' barracks, police recovered drugs as well as needles, including used ones, Faridkot SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor said here today.
On Monday last, an unruly group of inmates had indulged in violence, pelted stones causing considerable loss to jail property and also set jail records on fire while protesting the death of an undertrial Harsha Singh (65), who the jail authorities said, had died of heart failure.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had ordered a magisterial probe in the entire incident and Sub Divisional Magistrate, Kotkapura, Darshan Singh Grewal has started the probe, official sources said.
Three undertrials have died in the jail during the past ten days and inmates are protesting against inadequate healthcare facilities.
Inspector General (Jails) Jagjit Singh, who visited the jail here, assured prisoners of better health services.
Though situation is under control after Monday's incident, extra police force continues to remain deployed in the jail as a precautionary measure.
