A 13-foot-long
python was rescued by the forest personnel in Batighar village here.
The forest officials rushed to the spot on being informed about the reptile's presence by the locals near Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary. The reptile was rescued and released in the forest area.
"The trapped python would have died. It is good that people took initiative to save the python," Mahakalpada forest range officer Bijoy Kumar Parida said.
"We have released the python in the mangrove forest area, which is a safe habitat for snakes and lizards," Parida said.
