13-yr-old allegedly attempts suicide following sexual assault

A 13-year-old boy attempted to commit suicide after he was sexually assaulted by an unknown person in suburban Powai, a senior police official said today.
The boy, who tried to end his life by consuming poison yesterday, was battling for life at a city hospital, the official said.
His father told the police that the boy was sexually assaulted by an unknown man on July 12. The man warned him not to reveal the incident to anyone.
Traumatised by the ordeal, the boy allegedly tried to end his life, the official said.
The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The police are also investigating the death of a 10-year-old boy, the victim's friend, who died two days ago. Though his father said that he died of 'dehydration', police were probing if he too had become a victim of sexual assault and ended his life.
Further probe is underway.
