A 16-year-old boy drowned in river Krishna near Pulligadda bridge in Krishna today, police said.
Four students from Avanigadda village in the district had gone to Krishna, nearly 35-km from here, for an outing and ventured into a canal for swimming, they said.
"While they were enjoying swimming, one of the boys was swept away by heavy currents. The three boys tried to save him but he was washed away," Avanigadda circle inspector, SVVS Murthy said.
The deceased, identified as T Hariprasad (16), was a native of Markapuram in Prakasam district. He was a first year student at a polytechnic college in Avanigadda, the officer said.
His body was fished out with the help of local fishermen and divers and a case has been registered with Avanigadda police station.
