18 liquor cartons being smuggled from Haryana seized

Police have seized 18 cartons of liquor which were being smuggled into Uttar Pradesh from Haryana in an ambulance here.
The seizure was made late last night during a routine checking of vehicles at Shahjahanpur outpost under Sarsawa police station in the district here, Saharanpur SSP Nitin Tiwari said.
An ambulance coming from Haryana was intercepted, he said, adding, on being questioned, the driver said that he was returning after admitting a patient at PGIMER in Chandigarh.
As the police started checking the ambulance, the accused drove the vehicle in full speed, following which the cops chased him, Tiwari said.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and it turned turtle, the SSP said, adding, the accused managed to run away.
Police have seized the liquor as well as the ambulance and hunt is on for the absconding driver, he said.
