Patil informed this in the state assembly, in a written reply to a query by BJP MLA Girish Bapat, who wanted to know if over 2,500 inmates from jails in Mumbai, who were out on bail, have gone missing.
As of June 2013, altogether 2697 absconding accused are yet to be arrested, he said, adding orders have been issued to police to trace and arrest the remaining inmates.
