Two Congress workers have died after they were shot by a Youth Akali Dal leader who allegedly opened fire in self defence after being attacked with sharp- edged weapons by the party workers during a clash, police said today.
No arrest has been made so far, they said.
The incident took place on Thursday evening when a group of people, led by Jagmandip Singh, owing allegiance to Congress, allegedly attacked Vishu Kamboj of Balluana at a shop in a mall.
Kamboj, who is a Youth Akali Dal activist, in his complaint with the police alleged that he was attacked by Jagmandip along with Surinder, Gurmit, Baldev and four other unidentified persons with sharp-edged weapons, the police said.
According to police, Vishnu then opened fire at the group in self defence, in which, Surinder and Gurmit were seriously injured.
While Gurmit died on Thursday, Surinder succumbed to his injuries yesterday, police said.
Jagmandip in his complaint claimed that he and his friends went to the mall for shopping and Kamboj resorted to unprovoked firing with his pistol.
The reason behind clash between two groups was said to be the scuffle between Jagmandip and Kamboj that took place few days back.
Police has registered FIRs against Kamboj and three others and Jagmandip and seven others on each others complaint under relevant sections of the IPC, they said.
Kamboj, Jagmandip and one Baldev have been admitted to a hospital while other accused are absconding, police said.
