Mumbai Special Branch-I wing police sub inspector S Bandekar and constable S B Lande are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in suburban Mulund, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, Bandekar, along with his team went to Mankhurd late last night where they caught a Bangladeshi identified as Mohammed Samshed, police claimed.
During interrogation, Samshed revealed that some more Bangladeshis, who have been staying illegally, could be found in Kharghar of Navi Mumbai.
"Bandekar left the eight Bangladeshis, a constable and a driver along with the van at Kharghar and walked up to Ovale village. He was accompanied by Samshed, four constables including two females for Ovale raid," said a police officer.
In the meantime, a group of about 20 people freed the eight Bagladeshis, then reached Ovale village and attacked Bandekar and constable Lande at about 2.30 am today. The other police were not attacked, police said.
