Two policemen suffered injuries after a suspected criminal pelted stones at them, an official said today.
On the intervening night of August 4 and 5, police were informed that two suspicious men were seen taking a motorcycle, S D Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (PCR) said.
The officer said a PCR van was rushed to the spot. The policemen saw the duo taking the motorcycle.
The DCP said when the men spotted the police, they tried to flee from the spot, but the PCR van chased them.
Head Constable Ishwar Daya managed to overpower one of the men. But the other started pelting stones at the PCR staff, injuring Assistant Sub-Inspector Amar Singh, Mishra said, adding that Daya was also hurt.
Singh suffered injuries to his face and eye, he said.
The man, who was caught, was identified as Sunny. He was handed over to the local police and a case was registered at the Burari police station, the officer said, adding that the other accused managed to escape.
Daya and Singh are being suitably rewarded for their exemplary courage and devotion towards duty, he said.
