2 girls raped and killed in Pak's Punjab province

Two teenaged sisters were allegedly raped and shot dead in Pakistan's Punjab province, weeks after the brutal gang-rape of a five-year-old girl which caused outrage across the country.
The bodies of the girls, aged 16 and 17, were found in a drain in Nowshera Warkan on outskirts of Gujranwala district, about 80 kilometres from here.
Police recovered the bodies on Thursday and sent them to District Headquarters Hospital Gujranwala for autopsy. The medical report revealed that the girls were raped.
"Both the victims were raped before they were shot," a doctor who carried out the post mortem said.
Both sisters reportedly went to college on September 26 but did not return. Later, their bodies were spotted in a drain by a passerby who informed the police.

The police have registered the case and are investigating.

Since the rape of a five-year-old girl in Lahore about two weeks ago, the Pakistani media has been vigorously reporting rape cases.
The incident had caused outrage across Pakistan and rights groups have demanded that the rapists should be arrested and given exemplary punishment.
Lahore police are yet to find any clues about the rapists of the five-year-old girl.
The doctors at the Services Hospital have performed another minor surgery on the girl and declared that her health is fast improving.
"Rape was prevalent in our society but the media has realised its magnitude now and is highlighting this heinous crime which will help check it," rights activist Sajida Mir said.

She said the government should take up rape incidents seriously and play its role in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
