Two persons were arrested in Mandoli area of East Delhi for allegedly trying to steal a power transformer of BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL).
Disguised as the company's employees, they dismantled 100 KVA device, weighing 700 kg and loaded it into a truck by using a heavy duty crane, BYPL officials said.
After committing the crime, the two thieves had parked the truck at a distance, planning their next move, when they were caught by officials with the help of locals, they said.
The duo was later arrested by police, the discom officials said.
The two had planned the robbery to the minutest details even as drivers of the two vehicles, truck and crane, had no clue that they were participating in a theft. They had brought along a heavy duty crane and a truck to carry the transformer, said the discom officials.
Although the duo were posing as discom officials, local BYPL officials finding something amiss alerted the Head Office of an attempt to remove the transformer.
As no such approval to remove transformer in the area was given, BYPL's senior officials' team rushed to the spot. But by this time, the duo had succeeded in dismantling and removing the transformer.
"BSES appeals to its consumers that if they notice any suspicious activity around its distribution network, they should immediately alert BYPL at 39999808 and BRPL at 39999707 or alert the Police on No 100," said a BSES official.
