The police on Monday said they arrested two relatives of a Trinamool Congress councillor of the Asansol Municipal Corporation, who was shot dead on Saturday night.
One person was arrested from his house on Sunday night while the other surrendered before the police.
Khalid Khan was killed near his residence at Barakar here in Paschim Barddhaman district.
Khan's brother Arman claimed that the two arrested were their relatives and workers of the TMC.
"They killed my brother as he was very popular among the people. They had also tried to kill him four years ago but failed," Arman alleged.
Police said old enmity appears to be the motive behind the murder.
