The incident took place late last night and the victims have been identified as Surender Kumar, the truck driver, and his helper Santosh Kumar, they said.
"Surrender and Santosh sustained burn injuries after coming in contact with the chemical. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead," a senior police officer said.
Search is on to nab the tanker driver and his helper, who fled after the accident.
