It proposed to limit the tenure of the General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary and state level secretaries to three terms and setting up of a five member permanent programme commission.
"The recommendations of the Commission to the plenary to amend the party constitution envisaged limiting the tenure of the General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary and also of the State level secretaries to three terms (each term lasting three years)," CPI National Secretary Shameem Faizee said.
The party's constitution now provides for five terms (with each term lasting three years) for these office bearers.
He said the purpose of this amendment restricting the tenure of office bearers to three terms lasting nine years was to bridge the generation gap.
The other recommendation by the Commission for amending the party's constitution provides for setting up a five member permanent programme commission, Faizee said.
He said these two major amendments have been recommended to the plenary of delegates for adoption.
