The explosion took place in Rureke Kalan village here when a 30-year-old scrap vendor Amar Ram was hammering an iron piece, they said.
Ram, his niece Simi (2), wife Manpreet, daughter Mamta, sister-in-law Paramjit and nephew Soni were injured in the explosion, police said.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital where Amar and Simi were declared brought dead, they said.
While the four others who sustained serious injuries are admitted to Government Medical College here and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, police said.
Police have started investigation in the case.
