21.17 lakh tonnes paddy procured in Punjab

Over 95 per cent of 21.17 lakh tonnes of total paddy purchase was made by the government owned agencies while rest was bought by private traders in Punjab in the ongoing kharif marketing season 2014-15.
More than 20.17 lakh tonnes of paddy was procured by government agencies including Punsup, Pungrain, Markfed, Punjab Agro, PSWC and FCI, said an official spokesman here.
Private traders bought over 1 lakh tonnes in the ongoing crop procurement season.
Ferozepur district was leading in procurement with purchase of 2,99,139 tonnes followed by Kapurthala and Jalandhar at of 2,20,857 tonnes and 2,05,814 tonnes respectively.
Punjab is expecting to procure 140 lakh tonnes of paddy in the current season.
