21 fishermen in peril in Bay of Bengal

Atleast 21 fishermen who have gone fishing in high seas are in danger as two of them are missing and the remaining 19 are floating in a boat with a defunct engine.
Fishing boats returning to the shore of South 24 Parganas district today rescued 28 fishermen, who were found floating in the sea, but two other trawlers have gone missing, Kakdwip SDO Rahul Nath said.
There is no report of the two trawlers - FB Karunamayee and FB Pallabi - which were carrying these rescued fishermen. The two missing fishermen were on board the second trawler.
Another trawler, FB Gangamayee, with 19 fishermen on board, is floating in the sea at a spot around 130 km from Bakkhali shore as the engine of the boat developed a major snag.

Though they can be contacted via radio telephone, the trawler faces the danger of being swept further away or toppled.
The Coast Guard has been requested by the district administration to rescue the 19 fishermen and search for the two missing ones, Nath said.
All the incidents took place during bad weather last night when the fishermen, hailing from various villages under Kakdwip police station area, were returning to the shore.
