The accused, Dara Singh, and his associate Kaptan were arrested yesterday and the police have recovered a sophisticated pistol, seven live cartridges and a stolen Hyundai Verna car from them, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bhisham Singh.
In the recent past, some incidents were reported in southwest Delhi in which unidentified men had fired gunshots at houses of businessmen and jewellers in order to extort money, said the officer.
Yesterday, the police received information about Dara Singh and his accomplice coming to Najafgarh area and a trap was laid.
Their car was intercepted near Najafgarh and they were asked to surrender by the police but they tried to escape and were overpowered, said the DCP.
Singh was earlier a sharpshooter for gangster Vikas Lagarpuria and Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu-Jyoti Baba, police said.
