The deceased has been identified as Himanshu Sharma who who was pursuing B.Com at Indira Gandhi National Open University and lived with his family in Sahibabad area of the district.
According to police, they are yet to ascertain the reason behind his action and no suicide note has been recovered.
"Eyewitnesses told police that before jumping into canal, Himanshu sat on the road for half an hour and thereafter jumped into it. Seeing this, a passerby informed the police, who pulled his body out from the canal and rushed him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival," said a senior police officer.
