This information was provided in the Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for HRD Mahendra Nath Pandey in a written reply to an unstarred question.
In a written reply to another question, Pandey also said that of the total number of 17,006 teaching posts in 40 Central universities, 6,080 teaching posts are vacant as on October 1, 2016.
These include 1,308 posts of professor, 2,230 posts of Associate professor and 2,542 posts of Assistant professor, the minister said in his reply.
