297 cases of Model Code violation registered in UP

As many as 297 cases of violation of Model Code of Conduct have been registered in Uttar Pradesh since it was enforced with the announcement of the Lok Sabha poll schedule.
IG (Complaint) A Satish Ganesh said in order to ensure free and fair elections, over 3 lakh people have been bound down in the 21 constituencies which go to polls in the first two phases next month.
Special vigil is being maintained on 5,969 hamlets in these constituencies where there is apprehension of some vested interests exerting undue pressure on voters, he said.
The income tax department has seized Rs. 2.43 crore in cash from people who could not furnish necessary documents about its sources and use.
