Guwahati Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Praksh Tiwari said the alleged incident took place on July 2 when the student of Gauhati University was going to her hometown, Morigaon.
"She has alleged that three persons tried to molest her. However, investigation revealed that it was her fear that the trio would molest her and so she jumped off the running vehicle and got injured," Tiwari told PTI.
Police have arrested three persons, including the driver of the vehicle, in connection with the case, the SSP said.
The incident has fuelled protests during the day on Gauhati University campus. The protesting students demanded immediate action against the accused.
