Three senior Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leaders were arrested today by the West Bengal CID from Haryana's Gurugram for their alleged involvement in arson and violence in Darjeeling earlier this year, a senior agency official said.
The state agency officer said a team of CID officers nabbed Dhan Kumar Pradhan, Tilak Chandra Roka and PT Ola from Sector 56 of Gurugram and they will brought here.
They were allegedly involved in setting afire the Bhanu Bhavan in the heart of Darjeeling in June, he said.
Incidentally, the three were part of a five-member GJM delegation, that included leaders like Roshan Giri and Swaraj Thapa, which had met Home Minister Rajnath Singh earlier this week.
"They have been arrested from Gurugram. They will be brought to Kolkata on transit remand tonight," the officer told PTI.
While Ola is the ex-Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Sabhasad for Ghoom-Jorebunglow, Roka is the chief advisor of Planters' Associations and DK Pradhan was recently elected as the municipal chairman.
They have been arrested under several sections for rioting with arms and unlawful assembly, promoting enmity between groups, and voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Besides, sections for assault or criminal force to deter public servant, mischief by fire and explosive substance, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy and others of the IPC were also slapped against them, the officer said.
The three were also booked under sections of the West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, the officer added.
The CID had issued warrants against them along with GJM chief Bimal Gurung his wife Asha Gurung and six other party leaders in connection with the violence.
A case in this connection was registered at the Sadar Police Station.
