3 killed as car rams into roadside tree

: Three persons - a footpath vendor and two women - were killed on the spot when a car rammed onto a road side tree at Periyanaickenpalayam, about 25 km from here today.
The occupants of the car-- a man, his wife and mother in law, were returning to Karamadai, some 35 km from here from Kozhikode in Kerala, when the mishap occured this evening, police said.
The man who was driving the car lost control of the vehicle when he tried to avoid a pedestrian and hit the tree, they said.
Under the impact, the two women in the car and the footpath vendor, selling mirrors died on the spot.
The seriously injured man has been hospitalised.
