3 killed as generator bursts in hotel premises

At least three persons were killed and two others sustained severe burn injuries as a diesel generator at a hotel here burst allegedly after coming in contact with a fire cracker today.
"Three persons have died and two others have been injured in the diesel generator burst incident," DCP, Bhubaneswar, Satyabrata Bhoi said.
The incident took place at a hotel-cum-restaurant at Khandagiri area in the state capital this evening when some people were busy in lighting up fireworks for Diwali.
The deceased included two security men and one staff of the hotel, he said quoting preliminary investigation.
The diesel generator burst in high intensity shattering the glass panels of the hotel and killing three people on the spot.

The bodies were seen scattered in the area, eye witnesses said.

However, doctors attending the injured persons at two hospitals in city, said their condition was stable.
"When I was coming out of the hotel, some people were lighting up fire crackers. The generator suddenly burst as it was hit by the afire cracker," said one of the injured persons who has been rushed to the Capital Hospital here.
Another injured person, a visitor to the hotel, was shifted to a private hospital.
Police and fire brigade personnel sealed the accident site.
Police said according to preliminary probe there was no foul play involved.
