Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal awarded the jail term to Nitin Dabas (25), Kapil (26) and Rakesh (33), saying the prosecution has proved its case and the circumstances point towards their guilt.
The court rejected the prosecution's submission that the convicts be awarded death penalty, saying the case does not fall under the category of the rarest of rare.
"Keeping in view the facts of the case that they murdered Rahul, all the convicts are sentenced to life imprisonment for the offence punishable under section 302 (murder)/ 34 (common intention) of the IPC," the court said.
According to the prosecution, victim Rahul, his friends and the three accused were consuming alcohol in an office in Kanjhwala area in north Delhi and a quarrel took place between the victim and Kapil on some issues.
Kapil threatened Rahul and left the place but later came back and killed him, it said, adding that the three accused took the victim with them for buying more liquor but did not return.
The victim's friends searched for him and found him lying near a cremation ground. He was having bullet injuries and they took him to a hospital where he was declared dead.
