3-year-old US toddler survives rare five-organ transplant

In a medical miracle, a 3-year-old boy in US has survived a rare five-organ transplant.
Adonis Ortiz, from Tampa, underwent a multi-transplant surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami in October.
Adonis got a new liver, pancreas, stomach, and small and large intestines. All the organs came from the same donor.
The surgery took six hours, and Adonis pulled through remarkably well, myfoxorlando.Com reported.
The child was born with his intestines outside his abdominal wall.
"Four hours after he was born, he had his first surgery," said his father Eximer Ortiz.

Adonis had "short gut syndrome," which meant he did not have enough intestine to absorb nutrients.

He had to be fed intravenously and has never been able to eat. When his liver started to fail, doctors did the multi-transplant surgery.
"His chances of rejection are under 10 per cent, so I do think he has a very good chance to have a very good and normal life," said Dr Rodrigo Vianna.
