A 30-year-old woman, on way to the Kashi Vishwanath temple, was allegedly gang-raped in Alinagar area here, police said today.
The woman, hailing from Satna in Madhya Pradesh, arrived on Sunday night by train at the Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Railway station and hired a taxi to reach the temple in Varanasi district to offer prayers on the last Monday of the holy month of 'Shravan', SP Santosh Kumar Singh said.
The taxi drivers, identified as Sonu and Jitendra, instead of driving her to Varanasi took her to a house in Alinagar area and allegedly raped her during the night hours, he said.
The woman somehow informed the police next morning after which both the accused were arrested, the SP said adding that efforts were on to trace the house owner.
The woman was sent for medical examination, the SP added.
