On February 13, the cab driver Aslam was found with bullet injuries in Jaffrabad. He was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
"Nine gunshot injuries were found on Aslam's body during post-mortem. Aslam had come to meet one of his friends when two-bike borne persons allegedly started firing indiscriminately," said the officer.
Prior to the incident, Aslam had allegedly spread rumours against the accused, who also happened to be his friends, that had apparently angered them, said a senior police officer.
A team was formed to investigate the matter and various raids were carried out at the hideouts of the accused.
"Based on a tip off, accused Kartar Singh was arrested and the juvenile apprehended on February 19. Two country-made pistols and four live cartridges were recovered from them," he said.
Kartar led police to two of his other accomplices, who were arrested on February 23.
The accused had allegedly fled to GB Road after the murder and later they had gone to Paharganj.
Aslam used to ply his cab between Khajuri and Anand Vihar.
"He sought help from his friends and asked them to get the money kept in his cab for bail but instead of helping Aslam, they allegedly handed over the cab to the actual owner," said the officer.
This apparently angered Aslam, who also accused them of taking Rs 4.5 lakh kept in his cab, and started "spreading rumours" about them, he said.
One of the accused was in a relationship with a girl through a social networking site and got married to her in January. Since her parents were opposed to the match, they took her back to Meerut and hid her at some unknown place, said the officer.
