Of the 15 women passengers travelling in the boat, five were rescued and were seriously injured.
The women were travelling to an island in the middle of the river for agricultural purposes when the boat met with the mishap, Dehri-on-Sone Sub-Divisional Officer Pankaj Patel said.
"The boat capsized in the swirling waters. Till now bodies of four women have been found, while five have been rescued in a serious condition. One woman swam to safety while five others are missing after the incident," Patel said.
The SDO said that the deceased have been identified as Parvati Devi (40), Mahangi Devi (35), Radhika Devi (32) and Champa Devi (38).
The injured have been admitted to Narayan Medical College and Hospital in the district.
Search operations are underway to find the missing women and divers have been called in, the SDO said.
