A long distance private bus turned turtle and fell into a wayside ditch at Jadupur on NH 34 in West Bengal's Malda district this morning injuring 40 passengers, police said.
The condition of four passengers was stated to be critical and they are being treated at Malda Medical College and Hospital, the police said quoting doctors attending to them.
The other 36 were allowed to go after treatmenr, the police said.
The bus was on way to Siliguri from Asansol when the mishap took place.
Police rushed to the spot soon after the accident and with the help of locals rescued the passengers and rushed them to the hospital.
Eyewitnneses said the bus driver lost control over the vehcile when a trailer truck suddenly appeared before it.
The trailer truck was seized by the police.
